Police in Tonga in Mpumalanga are investigating the murder of a councillor who was gunned down in Mangweni near Komatipoort on Tuesday.
Spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the 35-year-old man died of gunshot wounds in hospital.
He says the four assailants who burst into the man's house last night, also assaulted his wife as they stole cell phones and fled in the victim's Toyota bakkie.
Mdhluli said the motive for the killing is not yet established.
A team of experts has already been assembled under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela to track down the culprits.
