Almost 700 people died on South Africa’s roads in the first three weeks of April.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation says preliminary figures show that accidents claimed 699 victims until April 20.
The RTMC says the highest number of road fatalities occurred in KwaZulu-Natal where 148 people died in 116 accidents.
Gauteng was second with 119 deaths.
The Northern Cape and Free State recorded the lowest number, with 19 and 52 respectively.
RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane says human error and burst tyres were the leading causes of accidents.
