One hundred new trainee investigators have officially joined the Public Protector's staff.
Thuli Madonsela's office says the trainees were recruited last year and would increase the number of investigators by 25%, to 400.
Madonsela addressed the new recruits on Tuesday.
Her office processed 26 000 cases in the last financial year and concluded 16 700 of these.
The trainees would be based at the protector's 20 offices across the country.
They will initially work under the supervision of experienced investigators.
