The triple murder trial of a 17-year-old Griekwastad youth drew to a close in the Kimberley High Court this week.
The case was postponed to next Wednesday for final argument and judgement.
The youth has been charged with the murders of Deon Steenkamp, his wife Christelle and their 14 year-old daughter, Marthella, on their farm Naauwhoek last April.
He was 15 at the time.
Algoa FM News spoke to Legal Aid attorney, Vinesh Naidu, and asked him what the maximum sentence the teenager faces if found guilty on three murder charges and one of rape.
"All of these charges carry a minimum sentence of life in prison to impose a sentence is totally in the hands of the court. He could be sentenced anything between 15-20 years. He could serve each of the sentences concurrently which would mean he could only serve 15 years effectively and could be eligible for parole in 7 or 8 years" he said.
