Nestlé South Africa says it is working with local authorities to establish the root cause of a spillage of large quantities of coffee creamer into the Mooi River, which runs through Potchefstroom in North West.
Spokesperson Ravi Pillay says the Department of Water Affairs is also looking into the situation.
The Mooi River turned a milky white colour on Tuesday, which was initially thought to have been the result of a chemical spill.
It has however been discovered that large quantities of Cremora spilled into the river.
Pillay says an engineering team from Nestlé has been on site since late evening.
