The first of four learners from Hoërskool Driehoek who tragically lost their lives after a walkway collapsed, was laid to rest on Thursday.
The 13-year-old Jandré Steyn was one of three pupils who was declared dead on the scene when the walkway, connecting two of the school’s buildings collapsed.
Learners were making their way back to class after assembly when the incident happened.
The service was held at the River of Life Church in Vanderbijlpark and attended by several of his classmates and teachers.
The 17-year-old Roydon Olckers and 13-year-old Marli Currie also died at the school last week and their funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised.
The 16-year-old Marnus Nagel was one of nearly 20 students who was rushed to hospital with critical injuries, but sadly he succumbed to his injuries less than 48-hours later.
Nagel will be laid to rest on Friday.
Several learners are still in ICU with one girl who has been left paralysed from the waist down.
The school remains closed until further notice.
