Public Enterprises Miniser, Malusi Gigaba, says higher salary packages in the private sector are putting pressure on state-owned enterprises.
He told reporters ahead of his budget speech in Parliament on Wednesday that the government wanted state owned enterprises to be globally competitive and for that it needed highly skilled staff.
He said the remuneration packages in the private sector were dragging remuneration packages in government upwards.
Gigaba said the issue of remuneration was of great concern to government, adding that his department hoped to conclude a remuneration model this year.
