The Hawks have seized counterfeit vehicle spares worth R5 million following a raid on a warehouse facility in Tulisa Park in Johannesburg.
Spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Philani Nkwalase, said the joint operation was conducted on Friday following an in-depth investigation into counterfeit vehicle spares sold to motorists under the guise of “genuine NSK products.”
He said samples were purchased during the investigation and subsequently a search warrant was obtained.
“Large quantities of bearings with NSK Brand and logo were found in what turned out to be a huge-scale distribution warehouse facility. All the goods to the estimated value of R5 million were seized,” he said.
Nkwalase said criminal and civil processes are underway against two people, aged 49 and 52, who “will at the later stage be served with J175 summons to appear in court for the contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act once all investigations are concluded.”
