The Hawks said that investigations were underway into the failure of self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife to comply with their bail conditions.
The couple was recently granted bail of R200 000 each following their arrest with several accomplices on charges of fraud and money-laundering involving an amount of R102 million.
In a statement on Saturday, the Hawks said the Bushiri’s did not report at the police station on Friday in terms of their bail conditions.
Spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, said that reports that they fled to Malawi were also being authenticated and verified.
“Investigation around (the) failure to comply with the court order is underway,” she said.
The couple announced in a statement on Facebook today that they had left for Malawi claiming concerns about their safety and saying they would not get a free and fair trial.
