The Hawks have been assisting the Department of Basic Education in the investigation into the leaking of examination papers.
The Department of Basic Education said its Council of Education Ministers held an urgent meeting on Monday after the Mathematics Paper 2 and Physical Science questions papers were leaked.
“We want to reassure the public that we are hard at work to ensure that we protect the examinations. The Hawks have been helpful in working with us and they are encouraging developments coming from their side,” said Minister Motshekga.
She said the Hawks were called in after the Maths Paper 1 was leaked last week.
Minister Motshekga said her Department as well as Provincial Departments were working around the clock to implement new measures that were put in place to protect the on-going examinations and also to hunt down the culprits.
In addition, the Department dispatched teams to the provinces to re-check the security systems while the Council of Education Ministers expressed concern that the leaks were causing disruptions to a system which was already experienced challenges due to COVID-19.
