The Hawks have arrested a 39-year-old man and seized cocaine worth an estimated R400 million.
Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, announced the arrest on Wednesday after authorities found 800 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a 12-foot ski boat that was being towed by a bakkie.
She said the arrest was made on the N1 north of Pretoria by members of a multi-disciplinary team.
The team comprised members of the South African Narcotic Enforcement Bureau, Pretoria Serious Organised Crime, the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section with the assistance of Crime Intelligence Head Office.
“Upon searching the boat the team found 800kg of compressed pure cocaine with an estimated street value of R400 million,” Mogale said.
She said investigations were continuing and more arrests were imminent.
