South Africans who qualify for the government's special Social Relief of Distress Grant will be able to do so from Monday.
This, after the WhatsApp number that will be used for these applications, went live.
Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu, said the system had been tested during a pilot phase through the Department of Health's WhatsApp platform.
She said qualifying South Africans would receive R350 per month from May to October, following an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The grant will be available to South African Citizens, Permanent Residents or Refugees registered on the Home Affairs system; who are residing within the borders of the Republic of South Africa;
