Gauteng TV station robbed after just 4 months on the air

Police in Gauteng are investigating an armed robbery after the studios of a television station were robbed in Houghton on Monday.

Staff members from INX Prime were held at gunpoint by several armed robbers in what has been described as a military-style robbery.

Large amounts of broadcasting equipment such as computers and TV screens were stolen.

The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) condemned the robbery.

Chairperson Sbu Ngalwa says crime continues to be one of the biggest scourges in South Africa with journalists and their equipment not spared.

SANEF has recently witnessed how journalists get robbed when covering stories and how several broadcast media have been targeted with expensive equipment stolen.

INX Prime has only been on the air for four months and can be accessed through DStv on channel 345.

No staff members were injured during the robbery but counselling will be offered.
