A 26-year-old off-duty police constable shot and killed his 33-year-old girlfriend in De Deur, south of Johannesburg, before turning the firearm on himself early on Saturday morning.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Lt-Col Tshisikhawe Ndou says the constable allegedly visited the girlfriend, who was attending a night vigil at the funeral of her uncle.
He says after arriving at the house, the policeman and his girlfriend began arguing, and he took out his service pistol and shot her. He then turned the gun on himself and also died at the scene.
Police have opened inquest and murder dockets.
