Eighteen learners from Umthambeka School in Tembisa on the East Rand were rushed to nearby medical facilities on Tuesday after a ceiling collapsed on them.
The Gauteng Education Department says the Grade 6 learners were in class at the time of the incident.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says two learners are still being treated for their injuries while the others have been discharged.
He added that the MEC for Education in Gauteng, Matome Chiloane would visit the school on Wednesday to find out what caused the incident and to conduct necessary counseling for those affected.
Chiloane also called on members of school governing bodies to be vigilant at all times of challenges faced by their schools and report them to the department for the necessary attention.
