A matric pupil from Randfontein High School in Gauteng is facing suspension after he sold cannabis-infused cakes that resulted in 15 pupils being hospitalised.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says some 15 pupils from two schools in the province are recovering in hospital after eating cannabis-infused cakes.
The department says 11 grade 12 pupils from Randfontein High School fell sick on Thursday and were rushed to medical facilities.
Two of the pupils returned home while nine were hospitalised.
The learner who sold the cakes will be charged for breaking the school’s code of conduct and endangering the lives of his fellow learners
On Saturday, four Grade 12 pupils from Mamellong Secondary School in Tsakane were also suspected to have purchased 'space cakes' on their way to class.
The four were eventually taken to hospital.
Lesufi expressed his concern and dissatisfaction with the ongoing consumption of these so-called space cakes.
