A grade 10 learner from a high school in Krugersdorp has been suspended after he was caught on camera assaulting a female learner.
The incident took place on Tuesday at the Nic Diederichs High School.
A spokesperson for the Department of Education in Gauteng Steve Mabona vehemently condemned the behaviour that was displayed in the viral video.
He says a disciplinary hearing by the school's Disciplinary Committee is scheduled for the 12th of February.
Mabona called the incident despicable and made an appeal to parents to assist in enforcing discipline upon their children.
The victim, also a grade 10 learner, is receiving the necessary trauma support.
The school told Algoa FM News that they will not be issuing a statement to the media.
