The Department of Education in Gauteng says it will deploy its psycho-social support unit to the Primrose Hill Primary School in Germiston on Monday.
This comes after a 13-year-old pupil shot and wounded the school principal in broad daylight on Friday morning.
Department spokesperson, Steve Mabona, said the incident took place after the principal reportedly instructed a group of learners sitting in a foyer to take out their workbooks to study.
He said it is alleged that the grade six pupil did not take the instructions kindly, but the principal ignored him.
Gauteng police have now launched an investigation to establish the origin of the firearm which was confiscated.
The learner will face a charge of attempted murder when he appears in the Germiston Magistrates Court.
The 51-year-old principal is still recovering in a hospital.
