A 56-year-old farmer has died after he was fatally shot, and his son stabbed following a farm attack on the Swartpan farm in Henneman in the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, says the family’s domestic worker made the gruesome discovery at about 5 am on Friday, after the deceased’s wife could not get hold of her husband or son.
It is believed that an unknown number of suspects entered the farmhouse and attacked the farmer before shooting him in the head.
His 26-year-old son was overpowered on arrival and stabbed in the back and was later taken to hospital for treatment.
Makhele says at least three handguns were stolen during the robbery and the mode of transport used to flee from the crime scene is unknown.
Afriforum identified the victim as 56-year-old Pieter Hills.
