Police in Welkom arrested nine suspects who allegedly kidnapped a 42-year-old woman on Wednesday.
Police Spokesperson Captain S'fiso Nyakane said the woman's husband immediately reported her kidnapping when the men demanded a ransom from him.
On Thursday the Hawks got involved in the investigation and kept close tabs on the several phone calls made between the suspects and the husband where details of the ransom were discussed.
Police and several other stakeholders continued tracking the suspects and eventually arrested them in the Welkom CBD and in the nearby town of Odendaalsrus.
Nyakane said members seized almost a R1 million in cash, six vehicles and gold nuggets.
They will appear in the Welkom Magistrates Court on Monday.
