A Free State teenager will appear in court on Monday on a charge of human trafficking for allegedly soliciting the kidnapping of two 15-year-old girls.
Police said she was arrested in Sasolburg this week after the teenagers, who are learners at the Mafube Intermediate School, were reported missing in Phuthaditjhaba.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said preliminary investigations revealed that they were allegedly lured from their homes and into prostitution by unknown foreign nationals.
He said they were last seen on 20 November when their school informs were found inside a dustbin outside one of the girls' home, prompting an investigation.
Makhele said two of the girls were later found outside a tavern in Sasolburg by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit and returned to their families.
“The 16-year-old girl is expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate's Court on Monday. The investigation into tracing the kidnappers is ongoing,” he said.
