Free State province no longer "Covid-free"

The Free State has recorded its first cases of the Novel Coronavirus, making it the first province in Central South Africa to record such cases.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says some of the patients have already been taken in for quarantine by the provincial government. He says he will disclose the exact number of cases on Friday, once all patients are aware of their status.

He told doctors that numbers should reach 200 by Friday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa urged all South Africans, government officials included, to abide by regulations barring people from gathering in groups of more than 100 to curb the spread of the virus.

The department of health has voiced concern over the increasing number of local transmissions, two weeks after the country reported its first case of Covid-19
