Free State police said 42 people from Lesotho were arrested on Thursday for crossing illegally into South Africa.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said members of the Public Order Police Unit deployed to Ficksburg Port of Entry spotted a group of people crossing the Caledon River from Lesotho using a rubber tube.
“Members kept observation and waited for them to cross into South African shores and arrested them. All 42 people were arrested as illegal immigrants,” he said.
All suspects, both male and female, will appear in the Ficksburg Magistrate court soon.
Free State Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the members for ensuring that lockdown regulations are adhered to.
