Free State police are investigating a case of murder after an Emergency worker was shot execution-style along the R76 Lindley road.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo says on Thursday afternoon, just after lunchtime, police received a complaint of a body that was lying along the road.

She says on arrival at the scene they found a white Subaru Forester EMS response vehicle parked on the side of the road facing the Bethlehem direction.

Colonel Mbambo says the keys were still in the ignition and the headlights on.

She says the deceased was not in his EMS uniform but was positively identified as a staff member from the Bethlehem Emergency Medical Services.

The deceased, whose name has not yet been released, was found on the ground behind his vehicle with his sandals next to him.

He sustained five gunshot wounds to the back of his head.

The motive for the murder is not known and no arrests have been made.
