Free State Health MEC, Fezi Ngubentombi, has been killed in an accident.
The Department confirmed that one of her bodyguards was also killed in the crash on Saturday night on the N-1 outside Bloemfontein.
Free State Health Department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the driver of the MEC's car lost control over the vehicle which then crashed into a bridge and caught fire.
Two other people sustained injuries and were admitted to hosptial.
