A couple will appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on Monday after a police detective was shot dead.
Gauteng said 47-year-old Warrant Officer Ben Strydom was shot in Sinoville in Pretoria on Thursday morning while trying to arrest a 64-year-old man for fraud.
Police spokesperson, Augustinah Selepe, says when the man saw the police he fled and when Warrant Officer Strydom caught up him, the suspect drew a fire-arm and shot him before fleeing again.
She says Strydom's colleagues chased after the man who stopped on Moloto Road and shot himself.
Selepe says the wounded man is under police guard in hospital.
