Four robbery suspects killed in KZN shootout

supplied

The police in KwaZulu-Natal have shot and killed four suspects who are believed to have been involved in a spate of cash-in-transit robberies in the province.

A shootout between the suspects and the police ensued on Friday morning after a police team comprising various units as well as the Hawks followed up on information on the recent cash-in-transit heists.

This led the team to a house in KwaMashu which is believed to be a "haven for the suspects".

KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, said when police arrived on the scene the suspects opened fire, and police retaliated.

He said four suspects, two of whom were from Limpopo, were fatally wounded in the shootout.

Naicker said police seized two automatic rifles, two pistols with ammunition, and a large quantity of explosives.

"A manhunt has been launched for more suspects," he said.
