Mpumalanga police have arrested four suspects, aged between 17 and 21, in connection with an incident at Carolina Hospital where a gang attacked staff and robbed them of their personal items.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlahla said they were arrested by members of the Province’s Anti-Gang Unit following the incident in the early hours of the morning of 17 June.
He said a group of suspects stormed onto the premises and attacked and assaulted some staff members who were also robbed of their personal items, including cell phones.
Mohlahla said the group also went on the rampage, vandalising hospital property, and leaving behind a trail of destruction.
He said the drama unfolded after a man who was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound succumbed to his injuries.
Brigadier Mohlahla said a team was assembled under the command of Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, which led to the breakthrough.
“The four suspects are due to appear at the Carolina Magistrates' Court on Monday, 3 July 2023 facing charges, including malicious damage to property as well as business robbery and possession of suspected stolen property.”
