A former employee of the SPCA who used the "k" word in a WhatsApp message, has admitted to publishing hate speech.
In 2015, Suzette Kotze, who worked for the SPCA in Matlosana in North West, published a message on an SPCA support group: "May the lord forgive me but I wish all whore mother f***er k*****s die a horrible suffering death".
The NSPCA laid a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission shortly after the incident.
The Executive Director of the NSPCA Marcelle Meredith says their organisation condemns racism and hate speech in any form as it has no place within their movement.
In accordance with the court order, Kotze has been interdicted and restrained by the court from publishing, propagating, advocating or communicating hate speech as defined in section 10(1) of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act 4 of 2000. The court also ordered Kotze to undergo sensitivity training at an accredited institution that provides training on diversity, anti-racism and the promotion of racial equality.
The court also ordered Kotze to issue a written apology to all members of the WhatsApp group in a letter that must first be approved by the Human Rights Commission.
