Former Eastern Cape Education MEC, Stone Sizani, has been appointed the ANC's chief whip in parliament following the recall of Mathole Motshekga.
Motshekga will remain an ANC MP in parliament.
ANC secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe, also announced in Cape Town on Thursday that Dorris Dlakude is the party's deputy whip.
Mantashe said the reason for the change was that Motshekga was not a member of the ruling party's national executive committee, a pre-condition for being chief whip which the ANC set in 2008.
