At least five trucks were set alight on the R59 between Parys and Sasolburg in the Free State on Saturday evening.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says it is alleged by the drivers that one truck was petrol-bombed and forced to stop across the road.
He says it is further alleged that shots were fired at other trucks, forcing them to stop.
Makhele says the drivers fled into a nearby field and the other four trucks were set alight.
The motive is still under investigation and no arrests have yet been made.
Last week, seven trucks were torched on the N3 between Heidelberg and Vosloorus in Gauteng, while two trucks were set alight on the R103.
Police say preliminary investigations revealed that a white Toyota Quantum and a black VW blocked the roads, after which the trucks caught fire when petrol bombs were thrown at them.
The motive for these torchings is not yet known and police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property.
