Five suspected drug dealers have been shot and killed during a shoot-out with the police’s Anti-Gang unit in Kwa Zulu Natal.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says this follows the arrest of a suspect who is currently in police custody.
"Police were searching for suspects linked to a murder case in which three people, including a child, were shot and killed on Tuesday, 21 March in Springfield, Durban. They spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the vehicle used in the commission of the crime", she said.
Mathe says further investigations led the team to an identified premises in Morningside, Durban on Saturday where the shootout ensued.
She says five firearms, including three rifles and two pistols, an undisclosed amount of cash, and drugs worth an undisclosed amount of money have been seized by the police.
The arrested suspect will likely face charges of possession of drugs, illegal possession of firearms, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
