Five soldiers killed in car crash

The South African National Defence Force has confirmed the deaths of five soldiers in an accident near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga at the weekend.

Spokesperson Andries Mahapa says the driver lost control after the front tyre burst on Saturday before the vehicle crashed into a tree.

He says all five were declared dead at the scene.

Mahapa says the soldiers were part of the 9 Infantry Battalion deployed under Operation CORONA Border Safeguarding in Mpumalanga.
