Five people have been arrested in Pietermaritzburg in connection with the illegal possession of South African Social Security Agency cards and contravening credit legislation.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele says the arrests were made during a joint operation by police detectives and crime intelligence officers, and officials of the South African Post Office on Saturday.
The suspects were found in possession of 250 Sassa cards, nine cellphones, a laptop, and a memory stick.
Two vehicles were also seized.
Mbele says the police investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
The five arrested suspects, aged between 33 and 47, will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court soon.
