Cape Town firefighters had their hands full battling a massive blaze that razed an estimated 100 structures in Langa Township.
The City's head of Water and Sanitation, Dr Zahid Badroodien, said in a Facebook post late on Saturday night that the fire had been contained, but the situation remained tense.
He said a Joint Operations Centre would be activated on Sunday as damage assessments commence.
Badroodien said officials from the SA Social Security Agency would also be on hand to assist residents.
"SASSA is active and on scene. They will assess in the morning the number of families affected and the extent of the relief that they will deliver to those in need," he said.
The cause of the fire is as yet unknown, nor were there any immediate reports of injuries or fatalities at the time of writing.
