A Financial manager who was employed by the Northern Cape Cricket Union has been sentenced to four years direct imprisonment following his conviction on fraud charges.
Jean Pierre van Niekerk, 25, was arrested last year and made his first appearance in court just days before Christmas.
Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi says between July 2022 and March 2023, van Niekerk misappropriated funds belonging to the Union.
He says payments that were due to service providers were deposited into his personal bank account.
The Union suffered an actual loss of R4 24 071.25.
WO Mnisi says van Niekerk faced 80 charges of fraud but some sentences would run concurrently while others were wholly suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty on the same offence.
