Festive season safety campaign launched in East London

The Buffalo City Municipality and the SAPS have launched their Festive season safety plan in East London.

While addressing the media at the launch, the Metro's Executive mayor Alfred Mtsi said this year's theme is Rave But Behave.

Mtsi emphasized that during the festive season period, people should behave responsibly.

The official opening will kick start from the 27th to the 29th of next month in different parts of the Metro.

He said they have approached the Justice Department to increase a drinking and driving bail from R500 to R2000.

He said, "The Metro and SAPS commit themselves to make this festive season safe and secure. There will be zero tolerance to those consume alcohol on beaches."

"There are clear signs in all our amenities that talk to a list of don'ts. We humbly request our people to observe these prohibitions, including drinking and driving," he added.

From the 12th to 21st December, there will be activities which include the Carnival in all BCM regions as well as the Annual Buyelekhaya Music Festival.
