Police in KwaZulu Natal are investigating the brutal murder of a female teacher who was gunned down in front of learners by two assailants on Monday morning.
KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the incident occurred on the premises of a Phikiswayo Primary School at Ntuzuma.
"Two unknown suspects fired several shots at the victim before fleeing. The woman was declared dead at the scene," he said.
KZN Education MEC, Sipho Hlomuka, said; "We are heartbroken by the loss of a dedicated educator. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and the school community during this devastating time."
The provincial deparment of education also condemned "this senseless killing" and called on law enforcement to expedite their investigation.
Senior officials were also dispatched to the school to provide counselling and other services.
