Female officer arrested for stabbing two people in cell phone rage

File

A Northern Cape police officer is in hot water for stabbing a mother and her son in an apparent rage over a cell phone she claimed was allegedly stolen from her son.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate said 29-year-old Constable Vuyiseka Matse, of from Sutherland, appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping said the incident happened on Saturday when the female officer went to the home of the victims to look for a teenager named Reevin whom she accused of stealing her son's cell phone.

“It is alleged that Matse asked Reevin about the phone, but he said he did not know about it.

“Matse allegedly started screaming at Reevin, and out of panic, he said the phone was under the pillow,” he said.

Shuping said Matse took a knife from the kitchen, stabbed the teenager on his left upper arm, and hit him with an iron pipe.

His 44-year-old mother, Maria Manella, who tried to intervene, was also stabbed and seriously injured.

Shuping said Constable Matse was arrested and released on warning after appearing in court in Calvinia.

She will be back in the dock again on 14 February.
