Two people, a man and a woman, have died and six were seriously injured following an explosion at South Africa's third-largest crude-oil refinery, the Astron Energy refinery in Milnerton, Cape Town, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
In a brief statement, Astron Energy’s media and communications adviser Suzanne Pullinger said the incident occurred at approximately 4 am.
"Astron Energy immediately activated its emergency response procedures and notified the relevant authorities," Pullinger said.
Astron Energy is a leading fuel supplier in South Africa and has a vast network of Caltex-branded service stations.
