Eskom reduced the level of load shedding to stage 4 on Monday after the country was caught by surprise over the weekend when stage 6 was implemented.
This was due to multiple failures at key power stations on Saturday.
However, Eskom said due to the recovery of five units at Majuba, power station as well as two units at Camden, and one unit at Medupi power stations since Saturday.
Spokesperson, Daphne Mokoena said eight out of the ten generation units that tripped, were returned to service.
“Additionally, emergency reserves replenishment is progressing well.
“The return of these units comes after identifying the root causes of multiple unit trips, which were unconnected and purely technical in nature, related to electrical and control system issues in auxiliary parts of these power stations,” Mokoena said.
Meanwhile, the Energy minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Eskom CEO Dan Marokane, and senior officials apologised for the latest breakdown at a media briefing on Sunday.
They said full power is expected to be restored by the end of the week.
"A setback. Unacceptable. We understand your anger, your disappointment, your grievance. We will resolve this," Ramokgopa said.
He said Eskom was confident a plan of remedial action started more than a year ago would ultimately see the end of power rationing, including through maintenance of infrastructure and installation of new capacity.
