Energy Minister Dipuo Peters has come out strongly in support of the controversial fracking method to extract underground gas in the Karoo.
Speaking at the end of debate on her department's budget vote in Parliament yesterday, she described the shale gas under the Karoo as a blessing from God, adding that it would be wrong not use the resources that God left the country with.
Earlier in the week, Peters told a media briefing that if economical quantities of shale gas were proven to exist under the Karoo, it should be extracted.
