South Africans should start embracing the era of coalition governments, because there is little hope that individual political parties will dethrone the ANC on their own.
That's according to political analyst, Professor Lesiba Teffo at Unisa.
He says this is important for parties that are in talks for such arrangements to note that coalitions are not equal partnerships, but rather a marriage which requires parties to compromise.
Teffo says the ANC should get used to the new reality of coalition governments, because it is fast losing support.
Teffo and the University of Johannesburgâs Professor Tinyiko Maluleke agreed that although coalition governments were complex and difficult to manage, the ANC, the DA and the EFF had no choice but to co-govern some of the metros and key municipalities.
