At least 11 people are missing following reports of a fishing vessel sinking approximately 30 nautical miles off-shore of the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says a Mayday distress call was relayed to vessels in the area on Friday afternoon that responded to assist.
He says at least five fishing vessels reached the search area and recovered nine of 20 local fishermen from a life raft.
Lambinon says the casualty fishing vessel appears to have sunk from unknown causes.
The nine survivors were not injured and they were brought to the Port of Table Bay aboard a fellow fishing vessel during the night.
Both life rafts of the sunken vessel have been recovered.
Despite an extensive air and sea search, there remain no signs of the 11 missing fishermen and a search operation is ongoing.
