Eleven people were killed in a crash on the road between Kokstad and Umzimkulu on Monday, a KwaZulu-Natal traffic official said.
A truck and a Toyota Venture collided on the R56 in the morning, road traffic management spokeswoman Sinhle Mngomezulu said.
A child was among the dead. Health department spokesman Chris Maxxon said two people were critically injured and the others seriously injured. They were taken to the Rietvlei hospital by the provincial emergency medical rescue service.
Mngomezulu said it was not clear in which vehicles the injured or dead were, but said the Toyota Venture was not a registered taxi.
