Eleven people died and three other people were seriously injured on Thursday when a taxi hit a donkey before colliding with a truck on the N1 in Botlokwa, the Limpopo health department said.
The department said that the taxi hit the donkey and the driver lost control and the taxi collided with a truck.
Eleven passengers died and another three were in a serious condition.
The injured people were transported to various hospitals for further medical treatment.
“[The] department’s forensic medical services [were] on [the] scene. EMS [emergency medical services’] rescue services [were] on scene to recover four bodies trapped in the taxi, [and] burnt beyond recognition.”
