Former President Jacob Zuma has won his court bid and will officially be reinstated as a candidate on the Umkhonto WeSizwe party list.
The Electoral Court ruled in favour of Zuma and the MK party's appeal against the Electoral Commission on Tuesday afternoon.
The IEC argued that Zuma may not participate in the election as a candidate, because in terms of Article 47 of the constitution, he was not eligible for election, due to his conviction for contempt of court.
But his lawyers have argued that the sentence does not disqualify him as it followed civil rather than criminal proceedings.
Lawyer Dali Mpofu, representing Zuma, also told the court on Monday that since his client had benefited from a remission, his sentence was only three months long.
The electoral commission is expected to publish the final candidate list on Wednesday.
