An elderly Upington man has shot dead an intruder in his home during a farm attack.
Eighty one year -old Albert Strauss and his 72-year-old wife Chrissie were attacked on the farm Toekoms, about 20km outside the town, on Monday night.
Police say the couple had been assaulted with a piece of broken furniture.
Despite having an injured hand Strauss grabbed his pistol and fired two shots, one of which hit the intruder in the throat. He died in the house.
The couple are in a stable condition in hospital.
