Ekurhuleni metro police have arrested three people for possession of explosives in the Villa Liza area.
Member of the mayoral committee for community safety, Frans Mmoko says two men and a woman were nabbed during a crime prevention operation in the area on Friday.
He says the discovery was made while police were busy following up on a lead on the continuous break-ins and theft at taverns and bottle stores in the area.
Mmoko says different types of explosives were found in the house.
Preliminary investigations by the metro police linked the explosives to ATM bombings.
The three are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court soon.
