Eight arrested in KZN for alleged rape of female security officers

File

Eight suspects are in custody barely a day after allegedly raping three female security officers and stealing government equipment valued at over R280 000.

Kwazulu Natal police said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning at the province's transport department in Merebank.

Spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the men held the security personnel hostage at gunpoint.

He said the suspects, aged between 19 and 39, were armed with firearms and knives.

Netshiunda said the matter was reported to the police and on Tuesday afternoon, the suspects were identified, and taken in for questioning.

He said they were later “positively identified” during an identity parade.

They will appear in the Durban magistrate’s court on Thursday on charges of rape and business robbery.
